Did you know that spending on external debt service payments in the Global South is 2.7 times as spending on education; it is also 4.2 times more than spending on health and 11 times more than spending on social protection? From the #LifeOverDebt campaign, our purpose is to prioritise the concept of sustainability of life over the sustainability of debt in Global South countries, in order to generate a network of organisations working on economic and gender issues to promote initiatives in different spaces, generate advocacy and visualise common narratives towards civil society, all from the approach of feminist economics.
We have solid arguments so that the Global South can be fairer and more equitable with women and scale it to decision makers to target reforms and implementation of public policies with a gender approach.
The debt to women
The greatest debt owed by the states is the social debt owed to women who perform unrecognised and unpaid work that sustains the national economy. Women dedicate between 6.3 and 29.5 hours more per week than men to these tasks.
To disseminate these data and others, we have a social media strategy based on the creation and dissemination of content for digital platforms to inform and raise awareness on issues related to debt, climate justice, care and related issues.
The content is educational and accessible, consisting of images, infographics, explanatory videos, publications and reports. In addition, we promote virtual and face-to-face exchange spaces with experts, training courses for individuals and civil society organisations.
